About these answers
Mini #329's ten answers fill 23 white squares, and every one of them is crossed, so each letter belongs to one Across and one Down answer. The longest answers are HUMAN (5-Across), ENEMY (7-Across), WAGES (8-Across), LUNAR (2-Down), OMEGA (3-Down) and GAMER (4-Down), at five letters; the shortest are CLOG (1-Across), RARE (9-Across), CHEW (1-Down) and NYSE (6-Down).
The grid uses fourteen different letters. The most common is E, in four squares, and 9 of the 23 squares hold a vowel (A, E, I, O or U). There’s no J, Q, X or Z in it.
The trickier clues, explained
- 4-Down, “One playing on a console?”: the answer is GAMER. A question mark is the crossword signal for wordplay.
- 6-Down, “Wall Street exchange, for short”: the short form is NYSE.
