About these answers
Mini #353's ten answers fill 21 white squares, and every one of them is crossed, so each letter belongs to one Across and one Down answer. The longest answers are HAZEL (6-Across), OMAHA (1-Down), RAZOR (2-Down) and CLEAN (3-Down), at five letters; the shortest are ALL (4-Down) and HWY (6-Down).
The grid uses twelve different letters. The most common is A, in five squares, and 8 of the 21 squares hold a vowel (A, E, I, O or U). It includes Z, one of the four letters (J, Q, X and Z) that turn up least often in English.
The trickier clues, explained
- 7-Across, “Slow down there!”: the answer is WHOA.
- 6-Down, “Interstate, for short”: the short form is HWY.
